Santa Clara, Computer ScienceMs. Syphus taught junior high and high school biology and physical science for 3 years in Los Angeles before staying home to raise her 4 children.
A native of Southern California, her love of science was ignited during her high school years and she teamed up with her former AP Biology teacher to help grade essay exams in between college semesters.
At BYU she joined a teratology lab, researching chemical induction and subsequent prevention of cleft palate formation during embryonic development in mice. She also spent many hours dissecting and teaching from the human cadavers donated to the anatomy lab. During her final year she was hired as a teacher aide and tutor for the General (Inorganic) Chemistry classes and lab, thoroughly enjoying the goggle-eyed environment.
After graduating with her BS in Human Biology, Ms Syphus returned to her hometown to work in a mortuary while attending night classes at CSULA for her teaching credential.
In addition to her love of science, Ms Syphus is an avid baker and singer, and plows through 100+ books every year.
Ms. Darin Fisher has been teaching AP US Government for 7 years at Eastlake High School. She has always been interested in government and politics and enjoys spending time exploring both sides of different issues and is always willing to consider a well-constructed argument. She grew up in Southern California but moved to the Pacific Northwest in the early 1990s. Ms. Fisher has a degree in History and a minor in English. Prior to teaching she worked in various industries including Human Resources. She also teaches Sociology, American History, American Literature and a Civics.
Ms. Fish or dafish (as she is known at Eastlake) enjoys working with high school students and works to engage students in their civic responsibilities. Her classroom involves a large amount of discussion, debate and collaborative work. Teaching AP Gov during an election year is always exciting and there will be many different issues to consider. We are so lucky to have her with us at Lemonade as both a teacher and our Director of Educational Services.
Rachel Arrietta is an experienced educator who has been teaching since 2003. She has a teaching credential in English. She earned degrees in Communication (AA), Sociology (BA), and Education (MA) from College of the Canyons and Pepperdine University.
She takes pride in providing students with a safe place in which they can discover who they are and how they impact the world around them as well as how the world impacts who they become.
In addition to her role as an educator, Rachel is a mom of four kids but loves to also be involved with various programs on the Golden Valley campus. With that said, finding balance in all things is her top priority.
Mr. Lee is currently in his 6th year teaching APUSH. His first five years were at Calabasas High School where he increased the enrollment of the course from 100 students to 180-190 students while maintaining an exemplary pass rate of 85-96% and a 4/5 score rate higher than the national average pass rate. He is now teaching APUSH at his alma mater, El Camino Real Charter High School. In addition to APUSH, Mr. Lee brought AP World to Calabasas High School, planning and proposing the curriculum for his district and earning UC approval for the course. He has also served as a College Board AP U.S. History Exam Reader for the past 3 years grading thousands of LEQs and DBQs.
Mr. Lee earned his BA in History from California Lutheran University and his MA in Holocaust Studies from the University of London. Along with teaching, between 2016 and 2020, he founded the Academic Decathlon team at Calabasas High School and led the team to 4 straight Ventura County Academic Decathlon Championships and saw his 2020 team finish 4th place in California. He is excited to use his experiences teaching APUSH, grading the AP exams, and motivating his decathletes to help motivate and prepare students that might need extra help getting ready for the AP Exam!
